VOLUNTEER WITH YOUR GROUP

We're happy to help groups of community members volunteer together! If you're from a for-profit group or company, please click here to learn more about custom social responsibility and sponsorship options on Be the Change Day.

Part of a nonprofit, a school group, a service fraternity, or just a big group of friends? Read on to learn how to reserve space for your group at one of our Be the Change Day projects.

BENEFITS

There's no question that volunteers are a vital resource for many nonprofits, parks and schools. Yet California is ranked near the bottom in volunteerism rates (42nd!). Researchers have found that people give two main reasons for not participating in community service: they don't think they have the time, and no one they trust has ever asked them.

By bringing your group to a transformative Be the Change Day project together, you can help HandsOn Bay Area tackle both those barriers to effective and lasting volunteerism. By helping to transform a nonprofit, park or school in just four hours with a team of up to 100 others, volunteers will see first-hand the power of service.

With a HandsOn Bay Area membership, group members will have access to 80+ ways to volunteer each month, on their own or in your group.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Because entering the volunteers' information in our database, reserving space for a large group, and matching your group with the right project takes some time, we ask a few things of group leaders.

FUNDRAISING

We strongly encourage a tax-deductible registration fee of $25 per group member, which also serves as a lifetime membership in HandsOn Bay Area -- your group members will have 80+ monthly projects to choose from the other 364 days of the year. You can have a bake sale, join our Facebook Causes campaign, or solicit pledges from family, friends and colleagues to help us fund the paint, ladders and people we need to make the day a success.

ATTENDANCE

- Get an accurate count of the number of volunteers who will attend (and keep HandsOn Bay Area staff updated as the number may change)
- Submit a spreadsheet with final, accurate volunteer information for our database by Sept. 1
- Remind your group of the importance of showing up on Be the Change Day on time and ready to serve

LEADERSHIP

- We strongly encourage group leaders to also serve as Project Leaders on Be the Change Day. Learn more about that here.
